Modeled Metrics
FieldDoc provides a calculator feature that connect to leading environmental benefits models for some Activity Types. Models provide estimates of the environmental benefits that will occur if a restoration or conservation activity is installed on the landscape.
Steps to use the calculator from a model
The following are the general steps to use a calculator or turn on a model, for an Activity. This task must be completed within each Activity record, there is no option to batch calculate.
- Open the activity record. Make sure that you have selected the
activity type
and added your geometry delineating the practice. - Use the vertical ellipses to navigate to the Edit Activity modal.
- Confirm the Extent determined for this record.
- After you've confirmed the
Extent Value
, navigate to the Models tab. - Enter the unit value to complete the calculation.
Why isn't the model running?
FieldDoc provides you with the inputs to all fields used to calculate your outputs. If a field is missing, the model cannot function. For example, you may have a geometry that falls outside of a land-river segment associated with the selected activity type. The system will indicate that there is no land-river segment associated. In this case, the model will not function.
- Save your inputs.
Reset or Clear your inputs
If, for whatever reason, you want to start your calculation over or remove them from the activity, use the Reset or Clear Inputs buttons provided on this page.
- When you close out of the Metrics tab, the calculated outputs stay on. Whatever you do with your Activity record, those modeled metric values will be automatically associated with the record.
Available Models
Adapted Chesapeake Sediment and Nutrient Load Reduction Model
In order for a user to generate calculations with this model, they must correctly configure their Activities with the following:
- Select from the Activity Types list an option that lists this model.
- Delineate a geometry within an available land-river segment.
- Enter the
unit value
on the Models tab within each Activity Record.
Custom Models
FieldDoc hosts multiple custom models developed by expert panels. When using these models, users will be required to enter additional input fields in order to generate outcomes.

What to do if you don't want to attach a model's outputs to your activity record?
There could be an assortment of reasons why your activity record needs to track environmental benefits that are calculated outside of the models provided within FieldDoc. If you want to attach environmental benefit metrics to your activity records, you can treat them like non-automated metrics and manually input them.
Many Programs offer a "Custom Metric" option for Total Suspended Solids, Total Nitrogen, and Total Phosphorus. They behave in the same way as all Programmatic Metrics. Select, define, and attach these metrics to your activities within a pact.
